Starting from PHP 5, the language introduced the classes. They derive from the Object-Oriented program languages, such as C++ or Java, and they are objects indeed.
I’ve set this tutorial as “PHP/Advanced“, but not because it’s difficult, but rather because you must know what a function is and have a little bit of familiarity with variables.
What are cycles? Commands repeated more than once. Is it usefull to copy/paste the same functions more than once? No.
PHP is able to avoid this, with these functions: for, while, switch, foreach.
More and more in the new concept of the web sites share data. The most common type of this data is shared via XML file documents. You’ll for sure know about RSS: they are xml files. What about sites like WowHead? They allow you to access all their database via XML. Well, let’s learn how to read an XML file!
Now that we have the basics on how PHP works, let’s speak on how to get data from a form editable by a common site visitor!
Why is this article called “Strings & Variables”? Well, just because we’re going to speak about variables. The thing is that numbers are not that hard to use, while strings have a variety of functions, not that easy to understand on the first attempts.
